How a QR tag gets your things back — without giving you away

Most lost-and-found stickers ask you to make a hard trade: to be reachable, you print your phone number on the thing you might lose. MyTags removes that trade. A finder can return your item in seconds, and still never learn who you are.

Here’s how it actually works.

What a finder sees

When someone scans your tag with any phone camera, a simple web page opens — no app, no sign-up. On it they find:

• What the item is, and any note you left (“Please call, reward offered”).
• A message box that reaches you immediately.
• Only what you chose to publish — nothing more.

That’s enough to start a conversation and get your thing home.

What never leaves your account

The finder does not see:

• Your phone number or email address.
• Your name, your address, or where you live.
• Private notes, invoices or warranties you keep with the item.

Every message routes through MyTags in both directions, so you stay reachable without ever being exposed.

It isn’t GPS tracking

There’s no radio, no battery and no location beacon inside a MyTags tag. It costs nothing to run and never reports on you. A tag speaks only when a real person scans it — which is exactly why it’s private by design.

How the alert reaches you

The moment your tag is scanned, an alert is on its way — as an in-app push, a WhatsApp message, a Slack ping, or your own webhook. Each one carries the message, the time, and (if the finder shares it) the location and a photo.
